All diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Developmental Co-ordination Disorder are carried as multi-disciplinary assessments.

Developmental conditions are complex and to get in depth understanding of child’s difficulties often requires involvement of two or more professionals. It is called multidisciplinary assessment. Your child may be seen by several professionals.
The process will be carefully planned to reflect your child’s and family needs. Depending on the type of the assessment it may take place in the clinic, child’s nursery/school or home.

The findings of specialist assessments will contribute to the final report.

Paediatric assessment – we aim to arrange paediatric assessment within 4 weeks from the initial appointment.

Multidisciplinary Assessment – We aim to complete all our Multi-disciplinary assessments within 12 weeks after the start date of the assessment. You should receive a feedback appointment with the clinician and final report within that timetable.

We offer ADOS Assessment as part of Autism Spectrum Diagnostic Assessment.

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is an instrument for diagnosing and assessing Autism Spectrum Disorder. It consists of several structured and semi-structured tasks that involve social interaction between the examiner and the person being assessed. The examiner observes child and young person responses, interaction and behaviour and categorises in predetermined observational categories. Categorised observations are subsequently combined and produce quantitative scores for report. It takes from 40 to 60 minutes to administer ADOS assessment.

Developmental disorders are complex and a child may benefit from diagnostic assessment for one main condition and screening for co-morbidities. Frequently asked questions

I am worried it upsets my child when the behavioural problems are discussed in his presence?

We recognise that it may be difficult to discuss concerns regarding development and behaviour in the presence of a young child. We are happy to accommodate that and see parent/carer on their own on the first visit. For older children, we encourage the presence of the child/ young person to get him/her involved in the assessment from a very early stage. We would always explain the assessment process to your child and seek consent depending on your child age and level of understanding.

I am worried that my child is likely to present with both Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Many children present with co-morbid developmental and behavioural problems like for example Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and/or Developmental Coordination Disorder.

If there are concerns that your child may have both Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder two assessments would be needed. Each condition has it’s own screening questionnaires and assessment requirements. Following the assessment your child will be provided with comprehensive report, reflecting the impact of both conditions on your child’s daily life and functioning.

How long we will have to wait for the Autism assessment to be completed?

We aim to complete all our multidisciplinary assessments within 12 weeks from the start of assessment and within 12 weeks you should receive a feedback appointment with the Lead Clinician and final report.

Who can I contact to discuss concerns while waiting for assessment?

Your child will have allocated Lead Clinician who will be your point of contact through the assessment and will provide you with feedback once the assessment is completed.

Do I have obligation to continue after the initial appointment?

The purpose of initial appointment is to broadly understand the needs of your child and best way to assess them. After initial appointment you have no obligation to take further assessments. Please note you will not be provided with report following initial appointment.

Would I be given the opportunity to provide feedback?

We are very grateful for feedback on our Services and arrange regular feedback. If you have not received a feedback questionnaire please get in touch.
